Wellbeing
Our Community Wellbeing Team co-ordinates access to a wide range of activities, therapies, self help options, educational courses and information resources that are useful in helping to maintain good mental health and to promote an improved sense of personal wellbeing.
Good mental health is something that touches on all our lives, in the same way that good physical health does. You don't need to wait until you are experiencing difficulties to start thinking about how to look after yourself. You don't need a diagnosis, or to think of yourself as having a mental health problem.
The dictionary defines wellbeing as "a state of being well, healthy and contented". We are all likely to have slightly different understandings of exactly what this means for us as individuals, and how best to achieve it, but if you generally feel relaxed and positive about your life you will know you are on the right track.
Anyone who wants to manage their own wellbeing can choose from a range of opportunities to take some of the stress out of their life. Many of the steps are very simple and obvious - you just need to know what your options are and maybe have some encouragement and support to get started.
Different things work for different people. You might benefit from attending a workshop to learn about relaxation techniques. You might want to take part in a yoga class, use a light box or have a massage. You can learn about healthy eating options, training and employment opportunities, or how to cope when feeling anxious and down. And sometimes feeling good about yourself can be as simple as taking part in social or leisure activities, meeting new people, and experiencing new things.
Talk to our wellbeing team about your options. There are no complicated referrals forms to fill in - staff will normally just take a few contact details and have a chat with you about what we offer and how we may be able to help you. You can find out what's going on and get some ideas about what might suit you in the latest issue of What's On or just ring the wellbeing team for advice and further information.
We also undertake outreach work with other organisations who are working with their own established client groups in various sectors of the community. So if you are interested in us coming to you to work with your client group, in a setting that your clients are already familiar and comfortable with, please do get in touch.
