Bee-mused magazine has been flying hot off Sandwell Minds photocopiers on a monthly basis for the past three years now. The magazine is put together by those who attend the weekly workshops every Wednesday at the Wellbeing Centre in Smethwick. It has been a long journey for the editorial team to get their publication to its current guise.
The rewards are just starting to become obvious as now, every month, a cornucopia of heartfelt personal stories, powerful poems, humorous quips & topical articles pour in to the Bee-mused team who try there best to get at least one piece by every new contributor into the magazine each issue.
Every week between 1 and 3pm the Centre becomes a bustling hive of activity with typing, cutting, pasting and florid writing all going towards the assembly of ‘Bee-mused: the newsletter that’s written by members for members’.
Anyone can contribute to the magazine if they feel that they have something that they want to share, you don’t have to consider yourself to have a mental ‘illness’, don’t have to attend the weekly workshops or have ever attended a group facilitated by The Community Wellbeing team. The magazine’s strength lies in its variety and inclusiveness, and though it does often act as a showcase of work that has arisen out of discussions, photography or writings performed during Community Wellbeing’s various groups, we have received some fantastic pieces from people who have never been a direct part of any of these workshops. These are often people who simply want a forum where they can share their stories with others who might take something from them and feel stronger, less isolated or in other ways less ‘estranged’ from the world around them.
